Cherokee, North Carolina July 6, 2001

The top photograph is one of a log cabin that the Cherokee lived in. The skins you see on the outside are hunting skins. On the inside (not visible in the photograph) is a small bed and a small eating area. The Cherokee were not your "typical" Native Americans. They, contrary to belief, did not live in teepees. They adopted some European traditions, such as the log cabins.

The bottom photograph is a shot of another home that the Cherokee lived in. Notice the small window. The interior of this house was similar in style to the one in the top photograph.

The top photograph shows us our tour guide, Shana (sp?) as she was explaining how the boats that the Cherokee used were made. Notice in front the finished product, in the middle is a boat in progress. I can't completely recall how it was done, but they had to burn part of the wood away.

The bottom photograph is a shot Mom and I took during our walk through the accompanying gardens at the Oconaluftee village. It was included with the admission price. This is a natural waterfall. They're pretty, aren't they?

Shots 3 & 4 (seen above) show scenes from the herb and vegetable garden of the Cherokee (seen on the tour inside the Gardens). In shot 3 (the first of the 2), on the very top is myself (Tim) in front of a hut in the garden. The other 2 shots in the photo, as well as all of the 4th shot, all are photos we took inside the garden. They took exceptional care of the garden.
